Calvin Harris

Superstars collided on social media yesterday (Aug. 20) with both Calvin Harris and The Weeknd teasing a forthcoming collaboration.

On Instagram, The Weeknd posted a presumably pre-quarantine image of him and the Scottish producer (Harris is clutching three full red Solo cups and wearing a Coachella wristband in the shot), with the cryptic caption, «Don’t get too confused…»

Over on Harris’ Instagram Story, footage of vintage mixing equipment was soundtracked by a funky and smooth AF R&B jam that would certainly lend itself to The Weeknd’s falsetto.

There’s no word yet whether this collab will be released by The Weeknd or by Harris, who this year has exclusively dropped music under his acid house influenced alias, Love Regenerator.

The news follows The Weeknd’s Aug. 7 performance on TikTok, during which he performed his current hits “Blinding Lights» and «Pray For Me» and teased 30 seconds of a new song.

Check out the teasers below.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande attend Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life – An All-Star GRAMMY Salute at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Feb. 10, 2015 in Los Angeles.

Billboard’s First Stream serves as a handy guide to this Friday’s most essential releases — the key music that everyone will be talking about today, and that will be dominating playlists this weekend and beyond.

This week, Lady Gaga makes it rain with Ariana Grande, The 1975 delivers another opus and The Weeknd recruits Doja Cat for another pop radio offering. Check out all of this week’s First Stream picks below:

The Song That Can Be Described As An International Bop:
Lady Gaga feat. Ariana Grande, «Rain On Me»

If anyone thought Lady Gaga’s “Stupid Love” was a dance-pop red herring leading up to the release of her new album Chromatica, “Rain On Me,” her new collaboration with Ariana Grande, quickly dispels such notions. The new team-up shimmers to an even more spectacular degree, gobbling up house and disco touchstones to become a gigantic dance record about embracing pain as a marker of humanity (“I’d rather be dry, but at least I’m alive,” goes the post-tears refrain). Lucky for us that Gaga selected the perfect collaborator for the track: Grande sounds reinvigorated here, her melismas filling gaps in the song and her verse becoming a full-on diva showcase. If the rest of Chromatica is this propulsive, we’ll be grooving to it well into 2021.

The Album That’s Worth The 80-Minute Run Time:
The 1975, Notes on a Conditional Form

For those of you desperate to hear The 1975 deliver a concise (read: shorter) body of work after their first three albums contained at least 15 songs each: album number four, the 22-track Notes on a Conditional Form, will not grant your wish. Yet the self-indulgence and air-gulping ambition of Matty Healy and co. have also produced wide-screen brilliance on a consistent basis, and Notes on a Conditional Form demands your attention because it has several of them. The amount of rock-adjacent sounds covered here is staggering, from the scream-punk urgency of “People” to the coffee-shop acoustic intimacy of “The Birthday Party” to the hilarious gospel/rap/piano-pop mash-up  “Nothing Revealed / Everything Denied,” but Healy’s songwriting can handle the sprawl and jump over the potential missteps. Sure, The 1975 could have turned Notes on a Conditional Form into a tighter 12 songs — but then, the most interesting rock band in the world wouldn’t be themselves.

The Remix That Could Lead To Another No. 1 Smash:
The Weeknd feat. Doja Cat, «In Your Eyes» remix

The Weeknd and Doja Cat are two of the most recent artists to top the Hot 100 chart, with “Blinding Lights” and “Say So,” respectively; one is a established hitmaker approaching a decade as a major name in music, while the other is the mainstream’s most in-demand rising star. It makes sense, then, that the pair balance each other out so effectively on the new remix to the Weeknd’s “In Your Eyes,” with Abel providing the steady hand on the track and Doja delivering the breath of fresh air. “Hate the way I feel love, only hurts with real love,” she sings, her voice unexpectedly fragile, her sentiment taking a page from the Weeknd’s pleasure-is-pain brand of pop. “In Your Eyes” just received an injection of feeling from the exact right choice for a remix, and could become another major hit for both artists in the coming weeks.

The Video That Makes Eating Fruit Look Super-Cool:
Harry Styles, «Watermelon Sugar» video

“This Video Is Dedicated To Touching,” reads an intro slide ahead of Harry Styles’ new video, which takes a Fine Line standout, adds some heavy petting (on the beach, no less), and lets us all wistfully reflect on the days before social distancing. The “Watermelon Sugar” clip is celebratory and slightly ridiculous — no one man should have all that citrus, and at one point, Styles casually tosses a full watermelon high behind his head with little concern. Yet Styles’ charm levels remain unending, and watching him pal around on the beach and pose for photos will make you want to do so the same (even if, you know, the snack menu is slightly diversified).

The Album That Could Be The Arrival of a Reliable Hip-Hop Star:
Gunna, Wunna

In addition to scoring solo hits like “Skybox” and “Speed It Up,” Gunna has become one of rap’s most in-demand collaborators, hopping on recent tracks by Young Thug, NAV and his Drip Harder partner Lil Baby. Wunna, a new 18-song project, boasts its own share of high-profile collaborations, but kicks off with four solo cuts that showcase the Georgia native’s effortless flow, melodic understanding and flashy-lifestyle lyrics. Come to Wunna for the Travis Scott teaming “Top Floor” and the latest Lil Baby link-up, “Blindfold,” but stay for Gunna running laps around his foes on the crackling “Feigning” and crooning all over the late highlight “Don’t Play Around.”

The Song That You’ll Want To Add To Your Instant-Inspiration Playlist:
Sia, «Together»

“Together” is a song that Sia wrote for her upcoming directorial debut, Music, and the veteran pop mastermind has said in recent interviews that the track was designed as a closing-credits anthem. If that’s the case, rarely will leaving a movie theater feel so empowering: “Together” aims to enthrall its listener with images of rainbows, angels, sharing love and setting the past ablaze, with Sia selling the approach with full vocal enormity. From “Alive” to “The Greatest” to “Elastic Heart,” Sia has fashioned a solo career out of providing hard-fought inspiration; “Together” is a kid-friendly, candy-colored edition of that vision, and an effective way to reach a new generation of listeners.

The EP That Sounds Like An Overdue Hang With Old Friends:
Florida Georgia Line, 6 Pack EP

“It’s beer. Thirty. And I’m. Thirsty.” So goes the opening line on Florida Georgia Line’s new EP, the appropriately titled 6 Pack, and the best-selling country duo is making it clear that, even if these songs don’t represent the proper follow-up to their ambitious 2019 album Can’t Say I Ain’t Country, at the very least they’re going to check in with you and provide a party. “Thank the Lord it’s Friday night and it’s time to chill,” Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard remark on the standout “Ain’t Worried Bout It,” which joins the previously released “I Love My Country” and the impressive Songland product “Second Guessing” on the track list. That sense of relief and welcome distraction pervades the project, with FGL saddling up during a fraught period in the country and doing what they can to entertain over the course of 17 minutes.

The Song That Should Immediately Be Added To Your BBQ Mix:
Deadmau5 feat. the Neptunes, «Pomegranate»

For a too-brief moment in the 2010s, Pharrell Williams revived his career in front of the boards and became one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, thanks to “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk, then his own “Happy,” and his GIRL full-length, which snagged a Grammy nom for album of the year. Williams has seemingly placed his singing career on the back burner in recent years, but no reason that he can’t occasionally slip into the spotlight and deliver another heater, as he does on the deadmau5-Neptunes collaboration “Pomegranate.” With the robe-funk production taken care of by the experts, Williams is given room to glide around his sea of intimate euphemisms (“You’re making faces, probably so am I / We’re in the ocean / Waves are rolling in your eyes”). Even as “Pomegranate” serves as delectable summertime fodder, let’s hope it’s not the last we hear from Williams for a while.

The Album That Pop Twitter Will Be Raving About All Weekend:
Carly Rae Jepsen, Dedicated: Side B

Although Carly Rae Jepsen’s songwriting has evolved thematically with each new release — the young-love meet-cutes of her “Call Me Maybe” days have given way to adult passion and attentiveness — there’s still a mixture of an airiness and inclusivity that has served as her bedrock and turned her into a cult hero. Dedicated: Side B, a collection of cuts from the sessions of last year’s masterful Dedicated, is stronger than most pop stars’ actual albums, and part of that consistency has to do with a lack of pomp or circumstance. Songs like “Summer Love,” “Let’s Sort The Whole Thing Out” and the Bleachers team-up “Comeback” are dreamy, ‘80s-indebted pop tracks that don’t need high stakes or superficial drama to soar. Jepsen remains such a talented song creator that even her castoffs sound blissful.

The Weeknd Beats Out 5 Seconds of Summer in Tight Race for Number One

The Weeknd
A24’s UNCUT GEMS Los Angeles Premiere, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA – 11 Dec 2019

The Weeknd won a very close race for Number One on the latest Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums chart. His After Hours album earned 146,500 album equivalent units, just enough to squeeze by 5 Seconds of Summer’s Calm, which arrived at Number Two with 144,300 units.

After Hours enjoyed robust sales in its second week on the chart — 48,500 copies — as well as 113.9 million streams. 5 Seconds of Summer out-sold the Weeknd, moving nearly 70,000 copies of Calm. But the Weeknd enjoyed a massive edge in streaming (113.9 million to 21.5 million) and song sales (42,700 to 7,000), and that was enough to keep him at Number One.

The Rolling Stone 200 Albums chart tracks the most popular releases of the week in the United States. Entries are ranked by album units, a number that combines digital and physical album sales, digital song sales, and audio streams using a custom weighting system. The chart does not include passive listening such as terrestrial radio or digital radio. The Rolling Stone 200 Albums chart is updated daily, and each week Rolling Stone finalizes and publishes an official version of the chart, covering the seven-day period ending with the previous Thursday.

Aside from the competition at the top of the chart last week, three other albums debuted in the Top Ten. The leader was Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, which arrived at Number Four with 46.6 million streams. Pearl Jam debuted at Number Seven with Gigaton; as is often the case with veteran rockers, the majority of the band’s consumption was driven by album sales. The R&B singer PartyNextDoor trailed behind with Partymobile, which arrived at Number Nine thanks mostly to 43.9 million streams.

The Weeknd Gets Reckless in Sin City for Twisted ‘Blinding Lights’ Video

vid must be embedded

The Weeknd looks to keep the ball rolling into 2020. Abel dropped off the twisted «Blinding Lights» video on Tuesday (Jan. 21), which finds the singer continuing his intoxicating trip to Las Vegas that began with his «Heartless» visual from December.

The XO singer wakes up in a trance while sweating and breathing heavily with blood staining his teeth. He gets up with a demonic smirk and recklessly takes his Mercedes-Benz convertible for a spin away from the Vegas Strip. The Toronto native has flashbacks to getting beat up and thrown out of the club earlier in the night, which explains all of the blood and bruises along with him being on the run to get to a safe place.

The Uncut Gems star will be taking his talents to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, when he’s expected to perform his latest hit single. A new Weeknd era is upon us, as «Heartless» topped the Hot 100, while «Blinding Lights» debuted at No. 11 and currently sits at No. 39.

Bruno Mars Has Seen The Weeknd’s New Mustache And He Has Thoughts

Apparently, there’s only room for one killer mustache in pop. Or so it seems. Bruno Mars had some thoughts on Tuesday (Sept. 10) when he saw that The Weeknd has paired his new, natural hairdo with a 1970s-style mouth brow. «This was the moment I saw The Weeknd’s New Mustache,» Mars wrote alongside a picture of himself behind a drum kit rocking a similar-looking lip caterpillar.

The friendly ‘stache talk rung up plenty of laughing emoji from pals including Kameron Whalum, Anderson.Paak and Ally Brooke.

Selena Gomez Would Never Have Asked The Weeknd to Donate a Kidney to Her, Source Says

0

Despite The Weeknd’s new album sparking speculation that the singer considered donating a kidneyto his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, while the two were still dating, a source tells ET that this simply isn’t true.

The Weeknd’s song, «Call Out My Name,» has had fans buzzing since its surprise release last week, thanks to the pointed lyrics, «I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/ Guess I was just another pit stop/ Til you made up your mind/ You just wasted my time.» Some suggested that the lyrics make a direct reference to Gomez’s kidney transplant — which occurred a few months before the couple broke up — and Gomez rekindling her relationship with Justin Bieber soon after she and The Weeknd called it quits.

However, our source says the GRAMMY-winning singer was never going to be Gomez’s kidney donor, despite what the lyrics in his new song imply.

“It’s just a lyric and he knew it would strum up attention and that people would interpret it exactly as they have, but he was never actually going to donate his kidney to Selena,” the source says. “Sure, he was her boyfriend at the time, so it perhaps crossed his mind to get tested to see if he was a match — which is incredibly rare — but it never got anywhere close to actually happening.”

Gomez’s close friend, actress Francia Raisa, ended up donating a kidney to her last summer.

“Selena would never, ever have asked him,» the source adds of The Weeknd. «She wouldn’t have even wanted him to even entertain the idea! It was difficult enough for her to allow a lifelong friend to do it, but a new boyfriend? No way.”

According to the source, Gomez and the singer’s 10-month relationship was not as serious as The Weeknd’s new album suggests.

“To be honest, they were never as intense as he’s making it seem,» the source says. «The Weeknd was always much more concerned with his career than his relationship. Selena leaned on friends and family during the surgery more than anyone.”

The Weeknd, Eminem & Beyonce to Headline Coachella 2018

0

The Coachella 2018 lineup has arrived.

We already knew Beyoncé would be heading to Indio, California, this April — thanks to her cancellation at last year’s festival because of her pregnancy — but the two-weekend festival has now confirmed The Weeknd and Eminem as her fellow headliners. The 2018 festival kicks off on April 13 and then wraps up weekend two on April 22.

Check out the full lineup below:

n addition to the three headliners, some notable artists on the bill include red-hot rappers Cardi B and Post Malone, R&B torchbearers SZA and Miguel, and newly minted rock hitmakers Portugal. The Man.

When Beyoncé was told by her doctors to skip Coachella last spring, Lady Gaga filled in as a replacement headliner and Queen B promised to hit the desert for the 2018 festival.

The Weeknd first performed at the festival in 2012, long before he was topping the Billboard Hot 100. Eminem, meanwhile, will make his Coachella debut atop the Sunday lineup.

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid Are »Hanging Out» Again: »He Still Loves Her»

0

Looks like old habits die hard for The Weeknd and Bella Hadid.

The «Starboy» singer was photographed leaving his supermodel ex-girlfriend’s apartment in New York City on Tuesday night, just a few weeks after splitting from Selena Gomez—who’s also been hanging out with her ex, Justin Bieber.

Multiple sources confirm to E! News that The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) and Bella have been «hanging out» again, and though they aren’t official, their feelings for each other are still very much there.

«Bella and Abel have been in contact since Abel and Selena split, but they are not back together,» a source tells us. «Abel reached out to Bella asking to hang out and catch up, and she decided to see him and see where things go. She knows that if they don’t date again, they can at least be good friends.»

Still, our insider says there’s no denying their «amazing connection,» so right now they’re just taking it slow.

«They enjoy each other’s company and have a lot of fun together,» our source adds.

A second insider says The Weeknd has been very open about the fact that he still cares for her deeply.

«He has expressed to her that he loves her still, and they will always have a real connection,» the source reveals. «He also apologized for hurting her in the past.»

But Bella isn’t about to jump back into things.

«She still loves him but has her guard up. She never really got over him,» the insider explains. «She is not looking to be exclusive with him now, just to be his friend. His schedule won’t allow him to stay focused on her—she knows this from past experience. She also knows he is talking to a few girls still. She reads what is put out in the news and that affects her.»

However, our source says Bella has «grown» from the time she spent away from The Weeknd following their «hard» breakup in 2016 after dating for a year.

«She is stronger this time around,» the insider adds. «She would give Abel another try, maybe down the road, but is taking small steps before she jumps back into a relationship.»

Another insider confirmed, «She still loves him, but she is keeping her options open.»

Selena Gomez & The Weeknd Have Adorable Disneyland Date After Cuddling Pic

0

Selena Gomez and The Weeknd might just be the happiest couple in the happiest place on Earth! The adorable duo brought their cuteness to Disneyland on Aug. 20, and they were sooo sweet together. See pics of the date, here.

Selena Gomez, 25, and The Weeknd, 27, have been EXTRA lovey-dovey lately! The pair was spotted wandering around Disneyland on Aug. 20, and they were giving off major romantic vibes. Selena literally couldn’t stop herself from smiling while talking to her man! They walked around hand-in-hand, and even enjoyed a display face-to-face while Abel held Selena in his arms and she pointed to something magical. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE PICS.

The couple definitely looks comfortable together, and they had the wardrobe to match. Selena was prepped for a long day of walking in black leggings, a black tank and a slouchy sweatshirt and sneakers. She wore her hair back in two french braids (VERY Kylie Jenner), and appeared to be totally makeup-free. The Weeknd had a chill athletic vibe going with sweatpants, a track jacket, and a baseball cap.

Clearly the pair was feeling a little sappy over the weekend. On Aug. 19, The Weeknd posted an Instagram story holding Selly while playing video games. He captioned the pic “home,” proving that she’s where his heart is. Plus, the smile on her face says it all: she’s head over heels for the singer! It had been a while since we’ve seen Selena and The Weeknd together, so it’s nice to see them flaunt their relationship a little bit and quell any worries in fans’ minds that there might be trouble in paradise. This duo is clearly here to stay!
