Harry Styles Basically Dressed Up Like a Watermelon to Sing ‘Watermelon Sugar’ on ‘SNL’: Watch

0

Harry Styles is officially riding a «Watermelon Sugar» high following his musical guest performance on Saturday Night Live.

After delivering a couple of One Direction jokes during his opening monologue as the show’s host on Saturday night (Nov. 16) and flexing his comedic chops in a few sketches, Styles donned a sparkling black sequined jumpsuit to sing through «Lights Up,» the first hit off his forthcoming sophomore album.

Instead of going with the highly danceable groove that made the track an instant earworm, Styles opted to change up the vibe of «Lights Up» and went with a smooth, stripped-down R&B rendition of the single instead. With little more than the piano, an acoustic guitar, a trumpet and the intricate harmonies of his back-up singers, Styles belted every high note and danced to the beat of the song’s bridge.

For his second song, Styles donned a ripe, red and pink suit — a perfect choice for «Watermelon Sugar,» which he performed live  merely an hour after he released the audio.

«Lights Up» may have been more subdued than the recorded track, but Styles brought all of the energy and might of the band behind him to «Watermelon Sugar.» Styles had teased the name of the tune back in October, and connected the track to «Kiwi» off his self-titled debut album with a mysterious tweet. He was clearly elated to be giving «Watermelon Sugar» its big debut, and euphorically punched the air in between verses.

Styles is set to kick off his Love On Tour trek on April 15, 2020 in Birmingham, U.K. He’ll likely be working «Watermelon Sugar» and «Lights Up» into the setlist, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be taking that watermelon suit out on the road as well.

Kanye West Sets a New Release Date For ‘Jesus Is King’

0

This time it’s for real.

Kanye West has set a new release date for his delayed Jesus is King album. After several previous release dates for the gospel-influenced album came and went, it appears that the album will drop this Friday (Oct. 25), coinciding with the release of the accompanying documentary of the same name in Imax theaters around the world. In an early morning tweet on Monday (Oct. 21), ‘Ye posted a blue vinyl copy of the album with the title and release date in the message; a spokesperson for West could not be reached for comment at press time to confirm the release date.

Kim Kardashian West originally said Jesus was rising on Sept. 27, a date that was then pushed back two days, though no music was ever released. Fans were disappointed when West then held one of his Sunday Services and hosted several listening parties the following weekend without releasing the album, despite a spate of performances and appearances in support of the disc.

In a trailer for the film that dropped Saturday (Oct. 19), the rapper says, «We’re here to spread the gospel. I’m not here for your entertainment.» Following a passage from the Bible (Mark 1:15), West adds, «I’m an evangelist, so my music, my films, every conversation, every room I go in, we’re here to save souls, save you from eternal damnation.»

Directed by Nick Knight, the film will feature West’s ongoing Sunday Service series that takes place in Roden Crater, an Arizona-based art installation by light and space artist James Turrell. Jesus Is King will feature 13 gospel songs arranged by West and performed by his Sunday Service choir, as well as new music from his upcoming album of the same title.

Missy Elliott dropped off another innovative visual on Thursday (Oct. 17), which is something we’ve become accustomed to over the past two-plus decades from the 2019 Video Vanguard Award VMA winner. Missy just unleashed a vide for the ICONOLOGY deep cut «DripDemeanor,» featuring appearances by R&B newcomer Sum1 and Teyana Taylor.

Elliott is flanked by a team of dancers, and everyone’s in matching black latex suits. Sum1 sings in a biking helmet, while Missy changes into a glow-in-the-dark uniform. Missy’s creative handprints are all over the Derek Blanks-directed clip, which bleeds through with special effects turning her braids into a skyscraper, funky sunglasses and accessories, along with her colorful hairstyle switch-ups.

Taylor pops up near the end to continue the storyline from the «Throw It Back» video, which finds her speaking in an accent to educate the youth about the legendary Missy Elliott in what looks to be a museum. Hopefully there’s plenty more to come from Misdemeanor before 2019’s out.

The guy gets the girl, but how does it end?

Louis Tomlinson is all in on the rock thing in the video for his «Kill My Mind» single. The high-energy clip directed by the aptly named Charlie Lightening (Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher) that debuted on Friday morning (Sept. 13) finds Liam blazing through the uptempo track in a packed club in front of an enthusiastic audience that includes a particular blonde woman that the camera seems to love.

The live scenes are intercut with images of a man bombing down a country road on a motorcycle, leading one to believe that said road hog might be Louis and the woman might be his video love interest. But that’s where the plot twist comes in, as the man is revealed to be a buzz-cut rider excited to check out a Louis Tom show with his crush. As Tomlinson hypes the crowd with his Gallagher-esque stage moves on the song the former One Direction star co-wrote and co-produced with Jamie Hartman, the couple hop on the man’s bike and take off.

And that’s where the plot twist comes in. Watch the video below to see how it ends, and stick around after the surprise for a sneak preview of Tomlinson’s next chapter in the couple’s love story. «Kill My Mind» is the second song released to date from Tomlinson’s upcoming debut solo album, following the pop ballad «Two of Us.» The release date and title of the album has not yet been announced.

Miley Cyrus unveiled the evocative visual for her power ballad “Slide Away” on Friday (Sept. 6).

The emotionally-charged video opens with Miley underwater in a slinky gold dress and matching accessories as she processes moving on in the wake of her split with husband Liam Hemsworth.

“Once upon a time, it was paradise/ Once upon a time, I was paralyzed/ Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights/ But it’s time to let it go,” the superstar sings as she wanders through a raucous house party looking dazed and mournful.

Several scenes from the new video echo those from the clip for Miley’s 2012 No. 2 hit “We Can’t Stop” — from the hard-partying extras to the shots of the sun-drenched star looking out from the edge of the pool — except this time, she’s fully detached from the revelry happening around her.

On Aug. 10, Miley announced her separation from Liam after less than a year of marriage. (The former lovebirds had been on-and-off for nearly a decade after meeting on the set of 2010’s The Last Song.) Less than two weeks later, Liam officially filed for divorce.

First Stream: New Music From Lana Del Rey

A titanic beauty spreads a macabre wave of horror! A terrifying masterpiece of shock and chills!

Lana Del Rey is literally a huge star in the mind-warping video for her cover of Sublime’s «Doin’ Time.»

The Rich Lee-helmed clip that dropped on Thursday (Aug. 29) pays homage to the schlocky 1958 Nathan Hertz-directed drive-in cult classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, with a gigantic LDR walking across L.A. plucking palm tress out of the ground like blades of grass, taking sips from water towers, stepping gingerly over freeways and checking her lipstick in office tower windows.

The long-awaited visual for the hazy cover slated for inclusion on the singer’s Norman Fucking Rockwell! album, due out tomorrow (Aug. 30), comes a week after Rey released the Lee-directed clips for «Fuck it, I love you» and «The Greatest.»

When we rejoin the action, a gigantic LDR crouches down to take a dip in the ocean. The scene shifts to an acutal drive-in, where a blonde Lana leans on a vintage 1950s car and waits for her boyfriend to grab her some snacks, only find him making out with another woman. The video features an extended orchestral interlude where massive LDR does a balletic dance on the beach and blasts sand at the drive-in denizens, before stepping off the screen to teach the cheating chump a lesson.
