Dua Lipa Confirms ‘Future Nostalgia’ Album, 2020 European Arena Tour

«What I wanted to do with this album was to break out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to make music that felt like it could sit alongside some of my favorite classic pop songs.»

After teasing out a picture of the ink she got bearing the title of her upcoming album, Dua Lipa confirmed on Monday (Dec. 2) that Future Nostalgia will drop in 2020. After releasing the hit first single «Don’t Start Now,» the singer explained the album’s vibe in a statement, saying, «What I wanted to do with this album was to break out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to make music that felt like it could sit alongside some of my favorite classic pop songs, whilst still feeling fresh and uniquely mine. I was inspired by so many artists on the new record from Gwen Stefani to Madonna to Moloko to Blondie and Outkast, to name just a few.»

Lipa has also revealed the dates for a huge Future Nostalgia 2020 European arena tour, which is slated to kick off on Apr. 26 at the Wizink Center in Madrid and run through 19 cities before wrapping up on June 19 at the 3Arena in Dublin.

“Because of the time that I’d spent on the road touring with my band I wanted Future Nostalgia to have a lot more of a live element, but mixed together with modern electronic production. My sound has naturally matured a bit as I’ve grown up but I wanted to keep the same pop sensibility as I had on the first record,» she continued about the inspiration she took from her live shows in recording the collection. «I remember that I was on my way to a radio show in Las Vegas thinking about the direction for this new record and I realized that what I wanted to make was something that felt nostalgic but had something fresh and futuristic about it too.”

Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Friday (Dec. 6) at 9 a.m. local time, with information available here. On Sunday, Lipa built anticipation for her sophomore release with a bikini image with the title tattooed on the inside of her left bicep. In late October, the singer shared her infection, dance floor-ready track «Don’t Start Now,» which debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. In April, Lipa tweeted that she was working on her second album, and was seen in studio with Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams.
