He’s Back! Calvin Harris Is Releasing New Music This Week

0

It looks like Calvin Harris is releasing new music this week, on Thursday (February 8) to be exact. The Scottish hitmaker shared video of a mysterious projection being shown in Times Square NYC, which shows a rotating skull as well as the release date. Just don’t expect the song to sound anything like Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. “In 2018 movin on from Funk Wav sound thank u for joining me on my musical journey haha,” he tweeted earlier this year. If the preview is any indication, expect something edgier than usual.

Of course, Calvin moved away from his trademark electro-house sound on his 2017 LP. Instead, he fused together dance, soul and hip-hop to forge a whole new club sub-genre. And while it was critically acclaimed (the Scot was nominated for Producer of the Year at the Grammys), it didn’t perform as well on the charts as previous offerings. However, “Slide” turned out to be a sleeper hit on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Feels” was a big song internationally. Check out the 34-year-old’s updates below.

Is Carly Rae Jepsen Teasing Lyrics To A New Song?

0

Carly Rae Jepsen promised that “new music is in fact on the way” in December and it looks like she’s a woman of her word. Canada’s greatest export updated her Instagram bio over the weekend with what appear to be lyrics to a new song. “When you move it’s like a disco darling — all my dreams come true,” it reads. Given that CRJ previously said she “very much into disco-y things” when asked to describe the new album, which apparently also references ABBA, it’s not too big a leap. In fact, fans have already christened the track “Disco Darling.”

It will be great to have Carly back. 2017 was a curious year for the 32 year-old. She popped up here and there, recording collaborations with Lil Yachty and Charli XCXas well as singing backup on Bleachers’ “Hate That You Know Me.” Carly also contributed “Cut To The Feeling” (one of the best songs of the year) to the Leap!soundtrack and is currently on the road as the opening act on Katy Perry’s Witness Tour. Bring on her glittery, disco era!

Niall Horan Picks “On The Loose” As His Next Single

0

Niall Horan is rolling out “On The Loose” as the fourth single from debut LP, Flicker. He made the announcement via Instagram — revealing the retro cover art, which depicts a black-and-white drawing of a woman holding a love heart. While “Seeing Blind” (the Irishman’s duet with Maren Morris) would be my choice, “On The Loose” makes a lot of sense. Like “Slow Hands,” it was produced by Julian Bunetta and is similarly upbeat. As much as I love Niall’s stripped-back songs, this is more radio-friendly.

To date, the 24-year-old has had one of the most successful solo eras of any 1D alum. Flicker topped the Billboard 200 and delivered two sizable hits. The folky “This Town”peaked at number 20, while “Slow Hands” made it all the way to number 11. (It would have climbed a lot higher if the video wasn’t scrapped). Third single, “Too Much To Ask,” got lost in the Christmas rush, but “On The Loose” could well return him to the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100. Check out the artwork below.
